In
the museum there is also a section dedicated to ceramic tiles decorated
with malacological themes.
A great number of tiles producers takes inspiration for their motif from
shelll, especially for bathroom and kitchen decoration. The connection
between sea and water is the idea to which many stylists refer, taking
shells, fossils and snails as main subjects. These subjects, realised in
a reliefed form, stylized or natural looking, can be admired on the
tiles shown either on special panels or even on the walls of the
museum’s toilets.
The tiles exibition has been growing continously to the point that
this section of the museum has become the most important of its
kind in the whole world. Besides the Italian samples there are many
tiles coming from all over Europe.
Laura
Biagotti, Valentino, Rocco Barocco, Krizia, Versace, Dior and Milandri
are only some of the stylists and designers which have an interest in
tile decoration and whose creations can be seen in the museums
exhibition.
